BREAKING: Adeleke Joins Accord Party

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally pitched his political tent with the Accord Party, marking a major shift just days after exiting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor made his new political direction public on Tuesday during an event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, where he received Accord Party leaders from both national and state levels.

Adeleke disclosed that his move was not sudden, explaining that he had already completed his registration with the Accord Party over a month earlier and would be seeking a second term under its banner.
According to him, “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”

He emphasized that residents of Osun State were already aware of the factors that influenced this political decision, reaffirming his commitment to completing ongoing developmental efforts.
He stated that his choice of party was rooted in the alignment between Accord’s philosophy of welfarism and his administration’s emphasis on improving citizens’ quality of life.

In his words, “I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”

Adeleke further noted the need for unity as preparations begin for the next electoral cycle. He stressed that leadership in Osun must remain inclusive and attuned to the needs of different communities within the state.

He continued, “Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people.”

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the governor pointed out that workers and ordinary citizens have benefitted from policies aimed at improving socio-economic well-being, infrastructure, and public services.

Adeleke also presented Accord Party as the renewed political vehicle for Osun’s future, stressing that the party’s symbol—“thumb up”—would lead the state to victory in the coming polls.
He declared that from the western to eastern and central zones of the state, and across local communities such as Ijeshaland, Ifeland, Iwoland, Modakeke, and others, the people would rally behind the party.

He affirmed, “Today, we unveil the new platform for the good people of Osun State… we must ‘thumb up’ according to our collective desires for good governance.”

Adeleke expressed strong confidence that the same electorate who supported him in 2022 would once again uphold continuity in 2026, adding, “Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026… In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the wishes of the Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”

His defection follows his formal resignation from the PDP on December 2. In a social media statement, Adeleke confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to party officials in his ward as far back as November 4, 2025, citing the prolonged leadership crisis at the PDP national level.

He explained, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.”

Adeleke expressed appreciation for the on platform the PDP had provided him over the years, saying the party offered him opportunities to serve as a senator and later as governor.
