Boko Haram Unleashes Terror in Niger, Kills 20, Beheads 10
Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram invaded Bassa community in Shiroro local government area of Niger State on Thursday, killing 20 people and beheading 10 young men. The attackers forced the community members to carry the severed heads while they videotaped and took photos.
The victims were reportedly shot at close range, and the attackers warned the community to either join them or vacate the area. Senator Alhaji Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial district, condemned the attack as “barbaric, heartless, and inhuman”. He expressed his helplessness in the face of these repeated attacks on his constituents.
This horrific incident is the latest in a series of attacks in the region, including a similar incident two months ago in Allawa community, where nine people were beheaded. The attacks have left the community in fear, with many displaced and struggling to access basic necessities.
Senator Sani Musa urged the government to take immediate action to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people in Niger State, saying “my heart bleeds for them. This is my darkest moment as the representative of the people of Niger East Senatorial district. I am very helpless at the moment. My people, including men, women, and children, are being killed like animals.”
