BREAKING: IGP Orders Immediate Withdrawal of Police Officers from Rivers LGAs
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the immediate withdrawal of police personnel from Rivers State’s 23 local government areas. This decision was announced on Monday, October 7, through a statement by Grace Iringe-Koko, Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command.
According to Iringe-Koko, “The newly deployed State Commissioner of Police, Bala Mustapha, conveyed the directives of the Inspector General for the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel previously deployed to seal and safeguard the Local Government Secretariats in the state”. This move demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to neutrality amid changing political landscapes.
The statement emphasized, “This decision aligns with the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure neutrality and the smooth functioning of democratic institutions”. The police will only redeploy personnel if public order is significantly disrupted, and emergency measures will be taken to promptly restore stability.
“The Rivers State Command assures the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and order across the state,” the statement noted, highlighting the command’s dedication to professional conduct .
