Cholera:Odidiomo Sensitizes Oyo Residents , Takes Campaign to Challenge Terminal

In a bid to stem the tide of the cholera epidemic ravaging the country, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, a member of the House of Representatives, has taken his cholera sensitization campaign to the Challenge terminal in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The campaign is aimed at educating drivers, passengers and residents on the dangers of cholera and the importance of adhering to prescribed health standards and preventive measures.

Hon. Olajide’s cholera sensitization campaign is part of his ongoing efforts to promote healthcare and wellness in his constituency.

Hon. Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-west/ Ibadan South-west federal Constituency of Oyo state at the national assembly, expressed concerns over the rising cases of cholera in neighbouring states and the need for collective action to prevent further spread of the disease, most especially into Oyo state, which has been free of the epidemic since it was discovered.

The challenge terminal, serves as a major transportation hub in Ibadan due to its high volume of human traffic and potential risk of inter-state cholera transmission.

“Cholera is a deadly disease that can be prevented with proper hygiene, sanitation and vaccination.”

“As a representative of the people, it is my duty to ensure that my constituents are well-informed and equipped to combat this epidemic, Odidiomo stated, while addressing drivers and passengers at the terminal during the sensitization campaign.

Olajide, while urging residents to report any suspected case(s) of cholera to the nearest health facility immediately also commended the efforts of the Oyo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Health in combating the cholera epidemic and pledged his support for their initiatives.

He urged the management of the terminal to also engage in door-to-door sensitization exercise in the surrounding communities as part of their social responsibility to their host community, to emphasize the importance of personal hygiene, proper waste disposal, and regular vaccination in preventing the spread of cholera.

The campaign was well-received by the residents, who appreciated the efforts of Hon. Olajide in bringing the message of cholera prevention to their doorstep.

“We are grateful for this campaign,” said Mrs. Adeola Adeyemi, a trader at the terminal. “We need more awareness and education on cholera prevention, especially in our communities.”
