Developing: Oyo Local Govt Chairmen Exposes Reasons For Supporting Makinde Under New Association
In what could be described as a thrilling outcome , Eaglessightnews gathers that all elected local government chairmen in Oyo state have unanimously declared their unalloyed support for the Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
The recent development is contained in a communique signed by all the chairmen in the state as released to newsmen by ALGON PRO Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo .
This new development by the chairmen can be described as solidarity to Governor Makinde’s recent stand on Local Government Autonomy as approved by the Supreme Court.
The 33 Local Government Chairmen in Oyo state unanimously state their unequivocal loyalty to the Executive Governor of the state, Engr Seyi Makinde due to his exemplary leadership and unrivalled achievements since his assumption of office.
Eaglessightnews recalls that Makinde during a meeting where he formed committees to review Supreme Court ruling on Local Government Autonomy stated “I called this meeting because I felt that even though we have not seen the Certified True Copy of the judgment of the Supreme Court, we have to be proactive and discuss the decision of the Supreme Court as it concerns financial autonomy of the local government councils because I believe a lacuna has been created between the decision and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that we all swore to uphold.
“The law is the law and when there is a conflict, yes, we should go to the court. But it behooves on us to look for our own homegrown solutions that can ensure that we have transparency and that our people do not suffer. This is because when two elephants are fighting it is the grass that will suffer”
Makinde’s stand on the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy has, however, received mixed reactions from the public. While some support his stance, others criticize him.
Oyo Local Government Chairmen Exposes Reason For Support
The Chairmen of the 33 Local council areas also unanimously agreed to establish a new association to continue serving the people of the state at the grassroots.
The Oyo 33 local government chairmen made the resolution today in Ibadan after a closed-door meeting.
According to a communique signed by all the 33 Local Government chairmen, the decision for all to operate under a new association was made as a result of the need to protect and provide for the people in their various local government areas.
The intended association of the local government executive chairmen will be
registered under the relevant Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
The communique release by the PRO reads
At the general meeting of ALL the Local Government Councils of Oyo State, held on Saturday 3rd August 2024 at Ibadan, it was voluntarily agreed and resolved as Follows:
