Ex-lawmakers, Makinde’s men eye vacant Oyo Rep’s seat

Over 20 individuals are vying for the vacant Ibadan North federal constituency seat in the House of Representatives, left open after Honourable Musiliu Akinremi’s passing on July 10.

Aspirants are eagerly awaiting the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement of the bye-election date, anticipated after the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State.

Multiple contenders from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party are seeking support from leaders, stakeholders, and constituents have stated doling money and conducting empowerment progrmams.

APC hopefuls include, former Officials: Segun Olaleye (Oyo State House of Assembly), Umar Arisekola-Alao (Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports), Adekunle Oladeji (local government chairman), Olamide Junaid (entrepreneur), Saheed Aderounmu (chief detail to former governor Abiola Ajimobi.Additional contenders include, Adewale Akinremi, AbdurRasaq AndulGaniy, Wale Olatunji, Wasiu Adebayo Akinremi, Monsur Akin Adeyemo, Taofeek Aderogba, Yinka Omikunle, Adebayo Adegoke

The PDP boasts candidates like Lanre Sarumi (2023 election candidate), Dada Awoleye (former member and caretaker chairman), Taiwo Lekan-Salami (2023 election aspirant), Fola Oyekunle (Deputy Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Governor), and Yinka Bibiire (former Special Adviser).

The Labour Party’s Femi Akin Dexter-Alamu, who ran in the 2023 election, is also in the running.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s influence may sway the PDP’s ticket decision, with party stakeholders optimistic about their chances due to the party’s popularity and APC’s potential division.
