Abuja–Kaduna Passenger Train Derails, Rescue Operation Underway
In a shocking incident gathered by reaching our news outlet , a passenger train heading from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Tuesday morning, has thrown several coaches off the track and sparking panic among travelers.
The incident as gathered by Eagles Sight News on Punch ,occurred shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11 a.m., left many passengers scrambling for safety as confusion and fear spread across the carriages.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with commuters rushing out of the cabins. One of them told reporters:
“It was total confusion. People who managed to escape were running in all directions. Everyone was scared. We are only praying that there are no casualties.”
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the derailment in a phone conversation with journalists. He noted that rescue teams had been deployed and were already working at the site.
“I can confirm the incident, but I cannot give full details now. Rescue operations are ongoing,” Opeifa said.
As of the time of filing this report, no deaths or injuries had been officially confirmed, and the cause of the derailment is still unknown.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor remains one of the busiest in the country, serving hundreds of commuters daily. It has, however, suffered a series of disruptions in recent years, including the March 2022 terrorist attack that claimed several lives and led to mass abductions.
