Ooni of Ife Visits Olubadan-Designate Ladoja in Bodija
Ibadan came alive on Sunday as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, visited the Olubadan-designate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, at his Bodija residence. Eagles Sight News has gathered.
Ladoja is set to be crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025, succeeding Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who passed on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
The historic meeting of the two foremost Yoruba monarchs drew a large turnout. Members of the Olubadan-in-Council, high chiefs, mogajis (family heads), baales (village leaders), representatives of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), political figures, women groups, and cultural associations filled the premises ahead of the Ooni’s arrival.
The atmosphere was colourful and vibrant. Traditional drummers and chanters entertained the gathering, while residents—mostly clad in white—occupied a large canopy outside the bungalow. Inside, prominent chiefs and dignitaries were seated in the expansive parlour, awaiting the royal guest.
Ondo Street, where the residence is located, was jammed with vehicles, leaving only a narrow lane for traffic. Security personnel, including operatives of the Amotekun Corps, mounted strong surveillance, while petty traders selling food, snacks, and drinks made brisk sales.
The Ooni’s visit has been described as a symbolic act of unity and mutual respect between two of the most respected Yoruba thrones. Palace sources noted that the gesture reflects peace, solidarity, and cultural understanding, reinforcing the bonds among Yoruba traditional institutions.
