Olubadan-Designate, Oba Ladoja to Teach Maths, Physics at Alma Mater, ‘Ibadan Boys’ High School’

Olubadan-Designate Ladoja Pledges to Teach Maths, Physics at His Alma Mater, ‘Ibadan Boys’ High School,’ After Coronation
The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has announced that he will visit his alma mater, ‘Ibadan Boys’ High School’, after his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, where he plans to teach Mathematics and Physics to students. Eagle’s Sight News has gathered
Ladoja gave this assurance on Monday while receiving the school’s management team, led by Principal Rasheed Fasasi, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Ibadan’s kingship is widely admired for its unique rotational and merit-based succession system, which alternates between the Otun and Balogun lines. This arrangement ensures that virtually every high chief has a chance to mount the throne over time.
Following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, in March 2024, Ladoja, who was then the Osi Olubadan, automatically became the Olubadan-designate as the next in line from the Otun line, after the completion of traditional and governmental processes.
The former Oyo State governor, who once taught at Ibadan Boys’ High School, described his planned visit as a way of reconnecting with his foundation and motivating today’s learners.
“Beyond being an alumnus of the school, I was also a former teacher here, where I taught Mathematics and Physics. So, during my visit after the coronation, I will engage the students in classwork”, Ladoja said.
He further appreciated the school’s management for honouring him with the visit and commended the principal for maintaining the school’s standing as a respected institution.
On his part, Principal Fasasi said the anticipated visit would be a source of encouragement to the students and rekindle their pride in the school. He also congratulated Ladoja on his forthcoming coronation and prayed for a successful reign.
Ladoja’s promise to revisit his alma mater underlines his lifelong bond with education and mentorship. It is expected to motivate students while stressing the value of learning as a pathway to growth and community progress.
The move is also seen as a bridge between Ibadan’s traditional leadership and its educational legacy, portraying the Olubadan not only as a custodian of culture but also as a beacon of intellectual and moral inspiration for young people.
Aside from his reign as governor between 2003 and 2007, Ladoja has remained deeply involved in Ibadan’s traditional affairs and has consistently defended the city’s distinct succession system.
His installation as the 44th Olubadan is expected to attract prominent figures from across the country and further affirm Ibadan’s place as a stronghold of Yoruba culture and tradition.
