This is just as the Oyo State government made a significant payout of ₦12 billion to its workforce, setting a new record for the largest monthly salary and wage disbursement in the Southwest region.
Eagles Sight News reports that this development follows Governor Seyi Makinde’s earlier promise to implement a new minimum wage of ₦80,000, effective January 1, 2025.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation Prince Dotun Oyelade stated, “The Makinde-led administration has once again demonstrated its dedication to the well-being of workers and retirees.”
The new wage structure has resulted in substantial salary increases for workers, with those on Grade Levels 1 to 6 receiving a minimum boost of ₦50,000.

In related news, the state government has also approved a minimum pension of ₦25,000 and a 33% increment for over 40,000 retirees.
Oyelade noted that this move reinforces the administration’s commitment to ensuring that all demographics benefit from its comprehensive welfare agenda.
Additionally, the government has abolished the ₦4,000 fee previously charged for retirement forms, providing financial relief to approximately 4,500 workers nearing retirement.
According to Oyelade, this decision will return nearly ₦20 million to the pockets of those preparing to transition out of active service.
He emphasized that the implementation of the ₦80,000 minimum wage marks a new era of prosperity for civil servants.
