Recording Academy Extends Invitations to Nearly 4,000 Music Professionals in Push for Diversity
In a bold move to update and diversify its membership, the Recording Academy, the organization behind the prestigious GRAMMY Awards, has extended invitations to a staggering 3,900 music professionals from various genres, backgrounds, and positions.
Eaglessightnews understands that this massive influx of new members is part of the Academy’s concerted effort to increase diversity and representation within its ranks. Notably, 45% of the invitees are women, 57% are people of color, and 47% are under the age of 40. This significant development is a step in the right direction towards creating a more inclusive and diverse community of music professionals.
The invited professionals include established artists, producers, and industry experts, such as Tanner Adell, Ashnikko, Grupo Frontera, and Teddy Swims, who have all expressed their excitement and gratitude at being invited to join the Recording Academy.
“So excited to say I am in the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs 2024 New Member Class,” said Tanner Adell in a statement. “This year has been full of checking things off my bucket list, and this is definitely one of them! Couldn’t be more honored to join this incredible roster and advocate for music and my fellow creators.”
Ashnikko also shared her thoughts, saying, “It is an honor to become a member of the Recording Academy. I am so grateful to be a musician in such an exciting era of music. It is an incredibly inspiring time. To be able to have a hand in nominating some of my favorite artists that are shaping culture right now feels very special.”
To become official members, invitees must accept the invitation by July 31 and participate in the Online Entry Process. Voting members will have the power to vote in the GRAMMY Awards, with voting taking place between October 4 and 15 this year.
This significant expansion of the Recording Academy’s membership comes on the heels of recent updates to the GRAMMY Award rules and eligibility, aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion. The updated rules feature more opportunities for featured artists, video game soundtracks, and other diverse works.
This move is a significant step forward in the music industry, and we can’t wait to see the impact these new members will have on the future of music!
