The Department of State Services (DSS) has disclosed the reasons for the arrest and detention of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero. Eagle’s Sight News has gathered

According to sources within the agency, Ajaero was taken into custody on Monday morning for failing to honour an invitation sent to him by the DSS last week. thenigerialawyer.com reports

The invitation was related to a petition filed by top NLC leaders against Ajaero, which allegedly bordered on issues threatening the stability of the nation. The DSS’s new Director-General, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, who assumed office less than two weeks ago, insisted on investigating the matter upon inheriting the petition.

A DSS source explained that Ajaero had promised to appear before the agency on Monday but was later spotted attempting to board an international flight at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The source emphasized that no responsible security organization would tolerate such contempt, as the law empowers the DSS to defend Nigeria against domestic threats, enforce criminal laws, and provide leadership and criminal justice services to federal and state law-enforcement organs.

The officer added that the DSS has carried out its duties over the decades without fear or favour, drawing a comparison to the CIA’s handling of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s legal issues. The source stressed the importance of living within the ambit of the law, including honouring invitations by security agencies, and expressed confidence that Ajaero would be released after clarifying the allegations made against him by his colleague-officers in the NLC.
