A Nigerian male student identified as  Big Bantin attracted significant attention when he staged a proposal to his female lecturer on the campus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU).

The incident quickly went viral, creating a buzz among social media users. Bantin, who is a songwriter and hypeman, approached the lecturer while she was seated and presented her with flowers. The audience reacted with excitement, encouraging the lecturer to accept the proposal. Playing their roles convincingly, the lecturer displayed emotion and covered her face before accepting the flowers from the student.

The video gained widespread popularity on TikTok. However, it was later revealed that the entire event was intended as a lighthearted and playful gesture, rather than a serious proposal.

In response to the video, the lecturer, Ella Baliat, playfully commented that the flowers presented to her were actually made of plastic and jokingly told the young man, Bantin, to come and collect his plastic flowers. Bantin acknowledged her response by sending her a message. “It’s even plastic….Come and carry your plastic flowers ooo,” the lecturer, identified as Ella Baliat, wrote. See video below:
