After Chairing Ibadan PDP Convention in 2025, Fintiri Defects to APC
Yola, Nigeria — February 27, 2026

Eagles Sight News reports that Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move that has generated significant political reactions across the country.
The governor announced his defection during a statewide broadcast on Friday, stating that his decision was taken in the interest of Adamawa State and its people. According to him, aligning with the ruling party at the federal level would enhance cooperation and accelerate development projects in the state.
The development is particularly notable given Fintiri’s prominent role within the PDP in recent times. In November 2025, he served as Chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee for the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where key party leadership decisions were taken.
Sources indicated that several members of his cabinet, political allies, and party stakeholders also moved with him to the APC, signaling a significant political realignment in Adamawa State.
Political analysts say the defection could reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, strengthening the APC’s influence in the North-East while further weakening the PDP’s national structure.
Reactions from party leaders and stakeholders are expected as the political implications continue to unfold.
