Today, October 11th, the world unites once again to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child — a day dedicated to amplifying the voices of girls, advancing their rights, and securing their place as equal contributors in shaping a brighter future.

This year’s global theme, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being” (UNICEF), reminds us that empowering the Girl Child is not just a moral obligation, but a powerful investment in the future of our families, our communities, and our nation.

When a Girl Child is protected, educated, and guided rightly, she grows into a strong, confident, and visionary woman — one capable of transforming society and breaking cycles of inequality.

I often reflect on my own journey — I was once a Girl Child too. The opportunities I received, the mentorship I enjoyed, and the values I was taught shaped the woman and leader I am today. Therefore, I firmly believe that when we nurture our girls, we build nations.
