The lawmaker representing Ibadan North Constituency I in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide, marked her birthday and Valentine’s Day by commissioning strategic community projects and implementing a large-scale empowerment programme across Ibadan North.

The grand finale of the event, held at Mount Olivet Grammar School, Ashi Bodija, brought together top government officials, political leaders, community stakeholders, market leaders, youth groups, and party faithful from across the constituency.

Massive Empowerment and Commissioning of People-Oriented Projects

As part of the celebration, Hon. Comforter commissioned a newly built Amotekun Office at Ashi Bodija under the Western Nigeria Security Network Amotekun. She also oversaw the renovation of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) shops at Yemetu, recently destroyed by fire, and the construction of boreholes with generators at Yemetu, Oje Market, and Ashi Bodija. Solar lights were distributed to strengthen security and improve access to essential services.

The lawmaker presented cheques totaling ₦700,000 to traders affected by the market inferno and empowered over 200 trained young entrepreneurs with start-up grants and vocational tools. Food items and gas stoves were also distributed to vulnerable residents. In support of education, she announced free JAMB and NECO registration forms for 20 outstanding students of Mount Olivet Grammar School.

Emotional Moment: Adoption of a Four-Year-Old Girl

One of the most touching highlights was the adoption of a four-year-old girl, whose mother could not afford proper clothing, but who had previously emerged first in a running race at a separate community event. Mentioned in Hon. Comforter’s presence, the lawmaker pledged to sponsor the child’s education for life, ensuring her full educational development.

“We are reaching out to the needy as today is Valentine’s Day and my birthday. I feel I should celebrate with my people that I represent, my constituents.”

“All these projects are about comfort, which my name represents — Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olanide. Christ has come to comfort us.”“I promised to bring development to their doorsteps, and I am fulfilling that destiny. They should expect more dividends of democracy.”

She assured that if given another opportunity to serve, her constituents would see even more impactful development projects.

PDP Leadership Commends Initiative

Speaking after commissioning the projects, the State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, praised the people of Ibadan North for their political maturity. He emphasized that the party is not preparing for war in 2027 but remains committed to peaceful, transparent, and credible elections.

“The boreholes and all the great projects are not for the use of PDP lovers alone, but for the general use of all the constituents, irrespective of political affiliation,” he stated, urging residents to maintain the projects for long-term benefit.

Dignitaries Grace the Occasion

The event attracted the presence and representation of high-ranking government officials and prominent stakeholders across Oyo State.

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, was represented at the occasion. The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, and his wife, Chief Mrs. Ajibike Lawal, were ably represented.

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, was represented, while the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Fadeyi, was equally represented.

The Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Kazeem Adeniyi Bibiire, was present at the event.

Also in attendance was the Honourable Member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (Fola DON).

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon. Toyin Balogun, graced the occasion, alongside distinguished members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, including Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola and Hon. Dawood D-Al-Ameen.

At the party level, the Oyo State PDP Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, was in attendance, alongside the Ibadan North PDP Chairman, Hon. Ademuyiwa Mustapha, party executives, ward chairmen, councillors, supervisors, special advisers, and other stakeholders.

At the local government level, the Ibadan North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Seun Olufade, attended the programme, while the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, was represented by his wife.

Other notable dignitaries included PDP chieftain Leader Ismaila Ashipa; Prince Adebowale Falana, Chairman of the Oyo Youth Development Agency; Hon. Nwachukwu Julian (S.A on Ibadan North Federal Constituency); Hon. Olusoji Alade (SOJ); Hon. Yomi Olajide (Royal Umbrellas); and the wife of the Aare Muslim of Yoruba and Edo Land.

Traditional representatives, mógàjís, community leaders, landlords’ associations, youth representatives, women leaders, members of the Amotekun Corps, the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), and numerous other stakeholders across Ibadan North were also in attendance.

The ceremony concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting session led by former NUJ Chairman, Ademola Babalola, symbolizing unity, celebration, and collective progress.

Hon. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olanide reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to grassroots development, inclusive governance, and sustainable advancement of Ibadan North Constituency I.
