Ogun Unveils Surprising Relief Package for Workers Amid Rising Economic Pressure

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has introduced a series of palliative measures for civil servants, including a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 transport allowance.
This development is to help mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs and the increasing cost of living. Eagles Sight News reports.
Eaglesssightnews.com gathers that this intervention is scheduled to last for three months starting from April 2026, is designed to reduce the financial strain on workers dealing with higher transportation expenses following the recent fuel price increase.
In a statement released by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, it was disclosed that eligible workers would be granted one day off each week, alongside a monthly ₦10,000 transport support within the duration of the programme.
Onasanya noted that the initiative aims to ease commuting difficulties while also boosting morale and productivity among workers.
However, he clarified that some categories of workers would not be included in the weekly day-off arrangement due to the essential nature of their duties. These include healthcare workers, judicial officers, teaching and non-teaching staff at all educational levels, security personnel, Accounting Officers, Heads of Departments, and other officials whose roles require constant physical presence.
He added that despite their exemption from the day-off policy, these workers would still receive the ₦10,000 transport allowance.
The Head of Service further explained that Accounting Officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) would decide the specific day off for eligible staff in a way that does not disrupt service delivery.
Describing the move as both timely and considerate, Onasanya praised Governor Abiodun for placing priority on workers’ welfare amid current economic challenges.
He also encouraged public servants to respond positively by showing greater dedication, discipline, and improved performance in their duties.
The palliative measures reflect the state government’s resolve to support its workforce while ensuring continued efficiency in public service despite prevailing economic difficulties.
