Saudi Arabia Declares June 16 as Sallah Day

Eaglessightnews reports that Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, marking the beginning of the 12th Islamic month.

Consequently, Friday, June 14, will mark the beginning of the holy month, and the Hajj pilgrimage for 1445 AH-2024 will commence on the same day. Arafat Day, which precedes Eid Al Adha, will fall on Saturday, June 15, and Eid Al Adha, the biggest Islamic festival, will be observed on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had called on all Muslims across the Kingdom to participate in the sighting of the crescent moon of the Arabic month Dhu Al Hijjah, which helps determine the commencement of the new month and the day of the festival.

Eid Al Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice”, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to God’s command. It is one of the two major Islamic festivals, the other being Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

The declaration of Sallah day by Saudi Arabia is significant, as it sets the date for the Eid Al Adha celebrations, which will be observed by Muslims across the globe.
