The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has unveiled the party’s 2027–2031 governance blueprint, promising Nigerians visible changes in the country’s fortunes within six months if elected president.

Adebayo presented the policy document, titled “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity,” at Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday.

The event attracted SDP leaders, supporters and other stakeholders, as the party formally outlined its proposed approach to governance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on the blueprint, Adebayo said the document was designed to address Nigeria’s major challenges through stronger institutions, improved security, increased productivity and broader economic opportunities.

He maintained that Nigeria’s difficulties were not primarily the result of a lack of natural or human resources, but rather the failure to effectively organise and deploy those resources for the benefit of citizens.

According to him, an SDP-led government would be anchored on constitutionalism, social democracy, the basic-needs approach, cooperative federalism and strategic collaboration with the private sector.

“Nigeria needs both: a capable public authority that guarantees essential public goods and a competitive private economy that innovates, invests, produces and creates jobs,” he said.

Adebayo said the proposed administration would place security at the centre of its agenda, covering homes, farms, schools, markets and major transportation routes.

He added that the programme would also focus on food security, energy, electricity, transportation, healthcare and education, while creating opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire relevant skills, establish businesses and obtain decent employment.

The SDP candidate further proposed a performance-driven system in which ministers, government agencies and public institutions would operate with clearly defined targets and deadlines.

He said citizens would have access to performance reports, while public expenditure would be linked to measurable results.

Adebayo explained that government programmes that failed to produce the expected outcomes would be reviewed and adjusted rather than allowed to continue without accountability.

“Our promise is, therefore, simple: government will be judged by what changes in the lives of Nigerians. Security, productivity, prosperity—these are not slogans; they are the standards by which this administration asks to be measured,” he stated.

On the state of governance in Nigeria, Adebayo argued that political authority should be understood primarily as an instrument of public service.

“We don’t have a government in Nigeria; don’t let anybody deceive you. Power is authority and government is service. The people there now are not governing but exercising power,” he said.

He subsequently urged Nigerians to become actively involved in the political process ahead of 2027 and work towards changing the direction of the country.

The SDP National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Umar Gombe, said the party’s objective was to tackle poverty while creating an environment capable of promoting sustainable prosperity.

Gombe maintained that providing security, housing, employment, education and food security should be among the fundamental responsibilities of government.

He called on Nigerians to support the SDP presidential candidate in the 2027 election.

Also speaking, the SDP vice presidential candidate, Dr Usman Bugaje, described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to reconsider the country’s current direction.

Bugaje said Nigeria possessed the human and material resources required to play a stronger role in Africa and the international community.

Among dignitaries at the event were Afenifere leader and Alaago of Kajola, Oba Oladipo Olaitan; SDP National Woman Leader, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola; SDP National Secretary and former Minister of Power, Dr Olu Agunloye; SDP Oyo State Chairman, Mr Michael Okunlade; former NANS President, Mr Segun Mayegun; and SDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Senator Ugochukwu Uba, among others.
