Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the procurement of two brand-new 10-ton refuse compactor trucks for the Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA), in a move aimed at boosting sanitation and waste management across the state.
Eagles Sight News reports that the procurement was facilitated by the Executive Chairman of OYOWMA, Hon. Waheed Akanbi Biiro, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Authority’s operational capacity.
Hon. Biiro described Governor Makinde as a “promise keeper,” commending his outstanding leadership and noting that he has continued to bring progress to Oyo State, particularly the Oyo State Waste Management Authority.
Hon. Biiro, alongside members of staff, expressed excitement and deep appreciation to the governor, describing the development as a long-awaited and pleasant surprise that will ease challenges in refuse evacuation.
Also reacting, the Acting General Manager of OYOWMA, Engr. Afolabi, commended the state government for fulfilling its promise, noting that the addition of the compactor trucks will significantly improve efficiency and service delivery.
Each of the trucks has a capacity of 10 tons, expected to enhance waste collection, reduce delays, and improve environmental sanitation across Oyo State.
Staff of the Authority also lauded the initiative, describing it as a morale booster that will strengthen their commitment to keeping the state clean.
