BoT Takes Over PDP Leadership After Supreme Court Nullifies Convention

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assumed national leadership of the party following a Supreme Court judgment that nullified the party’s 2025 national convention.

In a press release issued on Thursday, April 30, 2026, and signed by BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, the body said its decision was in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) to prevent a leadership vacuum.

Eagles Sight News reports that the development comes after the Supreme Court invalidated the November 15–16, 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).

The apex court also upheld the suspension of key party officials, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Hon. Umar Bature, and Kamaldeen Ajibade, who served as National Secretary, National Organising Secretary, and National Legal Adviser respectively.

According to the BoT, the judgment renders all actions taken by the affected officials invalid, including the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman, the formation of a National Caretaker Working Committee, and the conduct of the March 29, 2026 convention in Abuja.

The statement noted that the nullification of both the Turaki-led and Abdulrahman Mohammed-led committees places the responsibility of leadership on the BoT as the second-highest organ of the party, in line with Section 32(5) of the PDP Constitution.

The BoT said it has immediately stepped in to stabilize the party, foster reconciliation, and restore internal order.

As part of its next steps, the board announced plans to convene an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to appoint an interim National Working Committee that will oversee the party’s affairs and prepare it for the 2027 general elections.

The BoT also directed all staff of the party to resume duties at the national secretariat
