OBI, KWANKWASO JOIN NDC AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development occurred on Sunday in Abuja, where both politicians were received into the party following a closed-door meeting with its leadership.

The former presidential candidates were presented with membership cards by the NDC National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, at the party’s national secretariat after an earlier strategic meeting held at the Guzape residence of former Bayelsa State Governor and party national leader, Seriake Dickson.

Supporters under the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement gathered at the venue, chanting “O-K is okay” as the two leaders arrived. Footage from the event showed Kwankwaso receiving his membership card before Obi, amid cheers from supporters.

Speaking after joining the party, Kwankwaso said discussions with party stakeholders showed that their “ideologies and beliefs are largely the same,” while Obi urged members to avoid litigation that could throw the party into crisis.

Their defection follows weeks of uncertainty within opposition ranks and signals a fresh alignment as political actors begin early positioning for the 2027 general elections.
