Just In: FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday Ahead of Eid ul Adha

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Eid ul Adha celebration.

The declaration was announced on Monday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the decision underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the religious significance of the occasion to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world observing the festival.

Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s goodwill message to Muslim faithful both within the country and in the diaspora, noting that Eid ul Adha remains a solemn celebration that emphasises sacrifice, obedience to God, and love for humanity.

The government also called on Nigerians to take advantage of the period to pray and reflect on the nation’s progress, while seeking God’s direction as the country continues its drive towards peace, safety, and economic growth.

“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement read.
