Eagle’s Sight News reports that there are tracks that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has started throwing his hat into the ring for the 2027 presidential election.
This is just as his supporters are already rallying behind him, using the hashtag #MakindeForPresident to promote his candidacy.
The Strategic Preparations of Makinde, a serving Governor under the platform of the PDP to replace Bola Ahmed Tinubu , is happening with more than 2 years left to the 2027 general election.
According to fresh development confirmed from multiple sources, currently, Makinde is hosting members of the PDP press corps in Ibadan, showcasing his projects across the southwest states .
The official social media accounts of the PDP have also joined in, using the hashtag #MakindeForPresident while sharing photos and videos of Makinde’s signature projects .
This move positions Makinde as a strong contender for the presidency within the main opposition party.
Meanwhile, in a further confirmation gathered through a phone with Michael Ogunsina, Acting Publicity Secretary and Youth Leader of the party in the state about the Governor’s bid , Ogunsina said , the Governor has not declared his interest to context for presidency in 2027 but expressed confidence in Makinde’s candidacy, stating that he is a better candidate than the current president, Bola Tinubu .
Ogunsina highlighted Makinde’s experience, leadership skills, and reliance on data, science, and logic to foster good governance.
In a further information gathered by Eagle’s Sight , a source disclosed that a WhatsApp group was created, boasting 467 members, including notable individuals like Hon Olajide Odidiomo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan Northwest/Southwest .Several of Governor Makinde’s aides and local government officials are also part of the group, including his personal assistant on political matters, Akeem Azeez.
