Not Just Davido, Wizkid, Burna — Tiwa Savage Insists Tems Must Count

Nigerian music queen Tiwa Savage has stirred major conversations in the entertainment scene after questioning the popular “Big 3” label that has long defined Nigeria’s music industry.

In a recent interview, Savage argued that it is time to rethink who is ranked among the country’s top talents, stressing that Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Tems deserves recognition within that exclusive circle.

The “Big 3” narrative, which exclusively recognises Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, describes the trio as Nigeria’s most dominant global music exports.

However, Tiwa challenged the basis of that classification, pointing out that it downplays the outstanding contributions of women in Afrobeats.

Eagles Sight News reports that Tiwa Savage while speaking with BBC Radio 1Xtra, criticized the way female artistes are often branded and sidelined in industry conversations, explaining: “Think about it, certain types of artists get paid more. So, they get the opportunity to spend more on influencers and radio play, so you are going to hear their music way more.”

She further pressed her point, saying: “Also, I feel like it is unfair to have a conversation about the Top 3 and not mention someone like Tems. Are you serious?”

Her remarks have since set social media abuzz, fueling debates about whether the “Big 3” narrative should evolve to acknowledge female stars reshaping Nigeria’s global soundscape.
