Makinde Faults Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Says Nigerians Must Feel Impact In Living Conditions
Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has criticised the Federal Government’s handling of economic reforms, insisting that macroeconomic policies must translate into improved living conditions, security and economic opportunities for Nigerians.

Makinde stated this while reflecting on his recent town hall meetings across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, where he said participants raised concerns about the disconnect between economic reforms and the everyday realities of citizens.
The Governor also questioned comments credited to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, who reportedly claimed that state and local governments receive 85 per cent of Nigeria’s resources, while the Federal Government retains 15 per cent.
According to Makinde, his team’s examination of available revenue-allocation records does not support the minister’s presentation. He disclosed that a comprehensive report would be released to enable Nigerians to examine the figures.
He argued that economic development should not become a contest between the Federal Government and subnational governments over responsibility, stressing that all tiers of government must work towards measurable economic outcomes.
Makinde further maintained that after more than three years in office, the Tinubu administration should focus on demonstrating the results of its policies rather than debating who is responsible for Nigeria’s challenges.
Citing his administration’s experience in Oyo State, the Governor said his government had prioritised institutional development and economic growth rather than making excuses.
He identified the establishment and strengthening of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) and the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPA) as part of his administration’s efforts to attract private investment, create jobs and promote agricultural processing.
He also highlighted the Oyo State Agribusiness Transformation Centre in Fasola, which he said currently hosts 16 private-sector businesses that have generated over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Other initiatives mentioned by the Governor include Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited and Psaltry International Limited.
Makinde reiterated that his administration’s approach was based on performance and measurable outcomes, adding that the experience and capacity developed in Oyo State would inform his ambition to govern at the national level.
He challenged the Tinubu administration to demonstrate how its macroeconomic reforms have translated into broad-based economic development and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
