…Accuses FG of Ignoring 14-Day Ultimatum Despite Repeated Warnings

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed all its members across the country to embark on a two-week warning strike. Eagles Sight News has gathered.

According to ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, the industrial action follows the Federal Government’s continued neglect of key issues raised by the union. Eagles Sight News gathers on Punch and Daily independent

In a statement issued on Sunday, Piwuna explained that the union had no choice but to proceed with the strike after the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued on September 28, 2025.

“There is clearly nothing tangible on ground to warrant halting the implementation of ASUU-NEC’s decision. Therefore, all ASUU branches are instructed to suspend academic activities from 12:01 a.m., Monday, October 13, 2025, as the warning strike begins,” he stated, emphasizing that the action would be total and comprehensive in line with the resolution of the union’s last NEC meeting.

The union reminded Nigerians that its disagreements with the Federal Government date back to the 2009 collective bargaining agreement, which remains largely unfulfilled.

ASUU also criticized government representatives for making repeated appeals without taking practical steps to resolve the lingering issues affecting the nation’s university system.
