Suspected Child Kidnapper Arrested in Ibadan Community

A suspected child kidnapper has been apprehended by residents and subsequently handed over to operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, in the Idi Osan area of Alakia, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, reportedly caused tension within the community before Amotekun personnel intervened and took custody of the suspect.

An eyewitness, who spoke to Eagles Sight News on condition of anonymity, explained that the incident happened when a woman, accompanied by her friend and an aunt, was returning home with two children after picking them up from school. According to the witness, the woman briefly stopped to purchase some items and left the children a short distance away near their residence.

The eyewitness stated that the suspect allegedly attempted to forcefully take away the younger child, a girl believed to be between two and three years old, from her elder brother, who is estimated to be between 13 and 14 years old. Unaware that the children’s parents were observing from a distance, the suspect reportedly proceeded with the act, prompting the parents to raise an alarm.

Residents of the area quickly mobilised and intervened, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

According to the eyewitness, the suspect was beaten by an angry mob before security personnel arrived at the scene.

“In the video, after several beaten and torturing, the suspect only revealed that he came from Ekiti and was later handed over to Amotekun personnel who later took the matter to their Agodi headquarters,” the witness added.

Efforts by Eagles Sight News to obtain an official response from Amotekun proved unsuccessful. Calls placed to the Amotekun office in Ibadan North-East through 08074103391 were not answered.

A subsequent call to the Amotekun office in Agodi, Ibadan North, via 08037485004 was received by an official, who stated that he had not been in the office since morning and would provide further information later.
