Governor Makinde on the Importance of Democracy for Nigeria’s Growth

Governor Makinde has highlighted the essential role democracy plays in Nigeria’s progress, stressing the importance of maintaining a multi-party system.

When questioned about his disagreements with the FCT Minister, a former close friend and fellow member of the G5, Makinde chose to focus on broader issues rather than engaging in personal disputes.

“We don’t believe in a one-party Nigeria,” Makinde stated. “Our Founding Fathers gave us a multi-party democracy, and we must sustain it to give Nigerians options when choosing their leaders.”

By taking this principled stance, Makinde reinforced his dedication to democratic values and national development. His position reflects the significance of diverse viewpoints and the right of citizens to participate in selecting their leaders.

Makinde’s comments also indicate that he prioritizes the country’s democratic principles over personal relationships or individual interests. This perspective aligns with his focus on substantive matters rather than personalities, as he remarked, “Small minds talk about people. Average minds talk about events. We will rather talk about issues.”

Through his statements, Governor Makinde underscores his commitment to democratic governance and the necessity for Nigerians to have a voice in determining their leadership.
