Relief for Landowners as Makinde Vows to Tackle Circular Road Setback Concerns

Oyo State governor, ’Seyi Makinde, has assured property owners along the Ologuneru axis of the 110km Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project that issues concerning setbacks and corridor adjustments will be fully addressed before the end of his administration in 2027.
The governor made the commitment during a lengthy engagement with affected residents, reaffirming that no building will be demolished without the payment of adequate compensation.
Makinde explained that although the Circular Road is a rapid transfer network that must comply with highway setback standards, the government has resolved that the 150-metre setback will not be exceeded in already developed areas. He emphasised that markings beyond this limit should be ignored, as his administration is committed to protecting residents while ensuring the project meets necessary safety regulations.
The governor also praised the cooperation of the 38 communities impacted by the project and announced that ten representatives of the property owners would form a committee. This Committee will work directly with the New Towns and Cities Development Authority—the agency in charge of the Circular Road corridor—to resolve outstanding issues. He noted that the Ministry would no longer take the lead role in the engagement process.
Makinde provided updates on the project’s progress, noting that the first segment—from the Technical University to the Ibadan–Ife Road at Badeku—would be completed within three months. He added that the second segment, covering Badeku to Moniya, is ongoing with significant structures already under construction. According to him, the final segment from Moniya to Tech-U will be left for the next administration, but his government remains committed to compensating all eligible property owners.
Representatives of the affected residents, along with the Asiwaju of Ido, Chief Niyi Akintola, commended Governor Makinde for his responsiveness and compassion, urging him to provide long-term solutions to their concerns. They also appealed for further review of the existing corridor to minimise hardship. The meeting was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo; Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; the Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi; and several commissioners, local government chairmen and traditional leaders.
