2023: Oyo APC guber candidate Teslim Folarin agrees to work with Seyi Makinde for endorsing Tinubu over Atiku
The Oyo All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Teslim Folarin has expressed his willingness to work with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state governor, Seyi Makinde for Bola Ahmed Tinubu to win bloc votes in the state ahead of the 2023 general election.
Folarin stated this at the launch of the party’s presidential and governorship campaign councils on Monday, October 31, 2022, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Recall that, Adebayo Lawal, the Oyo state deputy governor on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at a meeting between Afenifere leaders and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of the APC, in Akure, the capital of Ondo state said his principal is in support of whoever the Afenifere endorsed for president.
Lawal, who represented Makinde at the meeting, said the Oyo governor has always been in support of the decisions taken by Afenifere.
“Since he (Makinde) has become a governor, he hasn’t played with issues concerning Yorubaland,” Lawal said.
Reacting to the development on Monday, Teslim who is contesting against Seyi Makinde in the coming election said; “The good news is, in Akure yesterday, there was a meeting by Afenifere. It was across party lines.
“Oyo governor sent his deputy and he sang the Asiwaju song. If that is their position, they should send their party chairman to meet with ours, so we wouldn’t disturb INEC.
“We have our candidate, Asiwaju and they have their own, Atiku, if they now want to support our candidate, we are all aware that resources are scarce, we can then advise INEC, don’t come to Oyo State.
We have extended an invitation. I’m serious. We don’t want to stress anybody, we can agree on the percentage to give Asiwaju.”
“There is no time Baba (Fasoranti) calls him that he doesn’t answer. Whatever they are doing, whether it’s under Afenifere or another group, governor Seyi Makinde has always been doing.
“Now, we are not of the same party, but we are connected by race. For this reason, the message he (Makinde) sent is that in Yorubaland, whatever you do, he is in support of it.”
This is coming amid the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of which he and Makinde are members.
Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, and his associates, including Makinde, have been demanding the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the PDP.
They vowed not to participate in the campaign of Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the PDP, until Ayu resigns.
According to Wike, Ayu had promised to step down from his position if the party elects a presidential candidate from the north because he hails from Benue, a state in the north-central geopolitical zone.
