Accord Party Crisis Deepens in Oyo as Hamzat, Busari Claim Parallel Governorship Primary Victory

A fresh crisis has hit the Oyo State chapter of the Accord Party following conflicting claims over the party’s 2027 governorship ticket, as popular broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, and Hon. Olakunle Busari Moruf “Goodugoodu” were declared winners by different factions of the party.

Eagles Sight News earlier reported that Olakunle Busari’Gudugudu’ won the primary election in a viral video  which disclosed that Busari pulled   29,427 votes to defeat his counterpart , Oriyomi Hamzat who pulled 18,716 votes.

However ,recent development and findings disclosed  that the duo emerged from parallel governorship primary elections conducted on Tuesday in the state, with both camps currently laying claim to the party’s gubernatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Busari is claiming victory from a primary election reportedly monitored by the National Secretary of the party, Mrs Adebukola Ajaja, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Engineer Olugbenga Keshinro, Prince Adewale Adeyemo, Mr Olaide Mobolade and other stakeholders.

The returning officer of the election that produced Busari, Olayinka Dairo, announced that the aspirant polled 29,427 votes to defeat other contenders in the exercise.

According to the results announced, Oriyomi Hamzat scored 18,716 votes, while former Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Fatai Owoseni, secured 11,922 votes.

However, Hamzat was also declared winner of another governorship primary election conducted by another faction within the party.

In a viral video circulating online, the party’s National Deputy Secretary, Abdulraman Muhammed, presented a certificate of clearance to Hamzat and declared him the authentic governorship candidate of the party.

“Three aspirants bought our party’s governorship form. We screened out two of them, and we found Oriyomi AbdulRahmon Hamzat as the authentic candidate and the one who won his own primaries,” he said.

Reacting to the controversy, the National Organising Secretary of the Accord Party, Ibe ThankGod, dismissed reports of factionalisation within the party and maintained that Hamzat remained the only recognised candidate.

“There is no faction. We fixed the timetable for the sale of forms and screening. Oriyomi did everything within the stipulated time,” he stated.

He explained that three aspirants — Oriyomi Hamzat, Fatai Owoseni and Olakunle Busari — purchased the party’s governorship forms, but only Hamzat completed the required documentation and screening within the stipulated period.

According to him, Owoseni failed to submit the necessary documents, while Busari reportedly appeared for screening after the deadline.

“Busari came for screening after the closure of screening and he was disqualified for coming outside the specified date and time,” he said.

The party official further insisted that Hamzat subsequently emerged as the sole qualified aspirant and was affirmed through a primary election monitored by officials of INEC.

“There is nothing to resolve. Oriyomi AbdulRahman Hamzat is the candidate of Accord Party,” he added.

“Stay tuned as this story continues to unfold.
