A milestone moment in Nigerian entertainment unfolds this weekend as Gammy & The Living Things, the country’s first full-length 3D animated musical, premieres in cinemas nationwide.

Announcing the release on Instagram, Utricle Studios described the project as: “Gammy & The Living Things is a ground breaking animation adapted into a 115-minute 3D feature film and a 5-episode special series, offering audiences multiple ways to experience its magic.

“This production fuses Nigerian storytelling, music, and art with a pan-African cast and a global view. It features a musical and contemporary adaptation of iconic African music, with an ace produced soundtrack bound to be a streaming success.

“Gammy & The Living Things showcases unique African talent, innovation and creativity to change the African animation narrative completely. It has the potential to usher in a new era of sellable African animation and become a global sensation, championing African content.”

The film tells the story of an ambitious Agama lizard with music in his soul who leaves his small hometown to chase superstardom in Lagos — a familiar dream for many Nigerian music hopefuls.

Set to debut on Friday, September 5, 2025, the release promises a fusion of vibrant animation, family-friendly storytelling, and iconic Nigerian music. Utricle Studios teased: “It’s a great thing set to be made possible from Friday, Sept 5th 2025, experience this perfect blend of quality animation, family friendly entertainment and iconic Naija hits at a cinema near you!”

Alongside its cinema rollout, the project will also introduce an original soundtrack album titled “Rites of Passage.” The soundtrack brings together stars like MI Abaga, TuFace, Waje, Timi Dakolo, Praiz, Johnny Drille, Made Kuti, Ric Hassani, Goya Menor, and Loud Choir, reimagining classics from legendary artists such as Blakky, Ras Kimono, Majek Fashek, and others.

This innovative production is being hailed as a turning point for African animation, with potential to place Nigerian animated storytelling firmly on the global stage.
