Workers’ Welfare: Makinde Approves 13th-Month Salary, Clears LAUTECH Hospital Arrears
Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the payment of the 13th-month salary to Oyo State workers for the seventh consecutive year. He has also authorized the settlement of outstanding salaries and minimum wage arrears owed to staff of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare
The governor made the announcement on Monday while inaugurating the Governing Board of the Teaching Hospital at the Executive Chamber, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. He assured that the issues surrounding the ongoing strike by LAUTECH lecturers would be resolved soon.
Governor Makinde charged the newly inaugurated Governing Board to completely revamp the Oyo Annex of the Teaching Hospital within 12 months, promising the board all necessary support to make the facility fully operational. He praised the competence and track record of the Board Chairman, Professor Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, noting that his wealth of experience would contribute significantly to the hospital’s transformation.
Speaking further, the governor explained that he had signed the salary file for December, which includes the 13th-month salary as well as all outstanding arrears owed to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital staff. He reassured workers that the alerts would soon be received, emphasizing that the payment had undergone due process.
The governor also expressed his commitment to ensuring that the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Complex in Oyo is fully rehabilitated and functional within a year. Although the project was expected to be part of a French grant, he noted that the state government would take it up as a special project and provide all required support.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Governing Board, Professor Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve. He assured that the board would operate transparently, energetically and with passion. He added that a strategic plan had been developed to transform the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital into a world-class institution, including the establishment of an advanced Electronic Medical Records system to bring the hospital up to global standards.
The newly inaugurated Governing Board comprises Prof. Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka as Chairman and Mr. Aderemi Adeniyi Adediji as Secretary, with other members including Mr. Olatunde Gabriel Oyelade, Dr. Bello Adebayo Taiwo, Mrs. Isola Agnes Bolanle, Dr. Akintunde Kehinde Ayinde, Prof. Olawale Adebayo Olakulehin, Prof. Adenike Olugbenga-Bello and Dr. Oluwajoba Olayinka.
The event was attended by top government officials and dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal; Ayaba Mutiat Ladoja; former Deputy Governor Engr. Hamid Gbadamosi; Senator Monsurat Sunmonu; Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima; Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Saminu Gbadamosi; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo; Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi; Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni mni; and Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon.
