Breaking: Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed , Loyalists Finally Dump PDP in Major Political Shocker, Sets Eyes on 2027 Senate Race

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following weeks of political consultations and speculation over his political future.
The announcement was made on Saturday at the Government House in Bauchi, marking a major political shift amid the ongoing crisis within the PDP.
Mohammed’s defection comes after prolonged internal tensions in the PDP, which he earlier described as “headless,” while also indicating openness to alternative political platforms. Analysts say the move could trigger further defections and weaken the party’s grassroots structure nationwide.
Reacting earlier to the Supreme Court judgment on the PDP leadership dispute, the governor noted that the ruling did not hand full control of the party to any faction. He stated that neither his camp led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) nor the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, achieved outright victory.
“We have succeeded in ensuring that no single individual hijacks the party,” he said.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, he added, “As democrats who respect the rule of law, we accept the judgement. But it is not a victory for anyone.”
Mohammed further stated that the PDP Board of Trustees would temporarily oversee the affairs of the party pending the formation of a caretaker committee, in line with constitutional provisions.
He also accused Nyesom Wike of working against the PDP, alleging that the FCT Minister and some of his associates have links with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Explaining his defection, the governor said the decision was aimed at securing a more stable political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections after extensive consultations with stakeholders and supporters.
“Our hearts remain with the PDP, but politically we must move forward,” he said.
He further confirmed his intention to contest the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat in 2027 under a new political arrangement, noting that his decision followed wide consultations before finalising his move.
The development signals a major realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape as attention shifts to how the PDP will manage its internal crisis ahead of the 2027 elections.
